ADA, Okla. - ADA, OKLA. — The Oka’ Institute at East Central University is proud to announce the dates for its annual water sustainability conference, Oka Con’25, now officially renamed the John and Kay Hargrave Water Sustainability Conference. The conference will be held October 21–23, 2025, on the East Central University campus in Ada, Oklahoma.
This year’s theme, “Honoring the Past, Innovating the Future,” captures the spirit of the Oka’ Institute’s mission to unite communities, researchers, and policymakers in the pursuit of resilient water and land systems. While the new name honors the extraordinary legacy of John and Kay Hargrave—two champions of education, service, and sustainability—the event remains focused on forward-thinking solutions that will define the future of water and beyond.
Over the course of three days, Oka Con’25 will offer keynote addresses from influential tribal, state, and federal leaders, as well as a series of interactive policy discussions on infrastructure funding, long-term water planning, and the future of land stewardship. Attendees will engage in hands-on workshops and breakout sessions designed to highlight innovative projects from across the region. A student research showcase will allow university students and early-career professionals to present their ideas and solutions to a diverse and engaged audience.
This year’s agenda also features a signature immersive dinner experience designed to foster connection and celebrate the cultural richness of Oklahoma. The final day will focus on real-world implementation through community-based project presentations—offering insights from tribal nations, municipalities, landowners, and conservation professionals working on the front lines of water and land sustainability.
“The John and Kay Hargrave Water Sustainability Conference is a space where meaningful conversations lead to measurable impact,” said Duane Smith, Executive Director of the Oka’ Institute. “We’re proud to carry forward the Hargraves’ legacy by bringing together the voices and visionaries who are shaping the future of water in our region.”
